Hi All! Here's my first video of the new year, and it is one of my favorites! In this one, I pit my trusty '03 Springfield rifle against the current Ohio Peace Officer's patrol rifle qualification course to see if I can pull off a qualifying score. Check out the video to see how it goes, and be sure to let me know what you think!
Happy New Year, Howard

I enjoyed this one. Nice work keeping the shots on target, Howard. It seems like you had no trouble with that part of the exercise. Does the '03 Springfield feel especially ergonomic and point naturally?

Does the '03 Springfield feel especially ergonomic and point naturally? Being a full-size battle rifle with a 24" barrel, the '03 does point pretty well; but the "scant" stock on my rifle is not particularly ergonomic. The "C" stocks are much better in that regard. Love me some '03s!
I do agree that the stocks leave something to be desired, mostly in being too short for me. I'm a fairly big ol' boy.
It isn't surprising that one would acquit itself so well. I began a high-power competition career shooting a Smith Corona '03A3 at a local match and happily shot it for several seasons. Rapid-fire stages were no trick with stripper clips. Collected some 17 different Model 1903 variants back when they were inexpensive and good examples were more prevalent at the Dallas Market Hall and Fort Worth Will Rogers gun shows. Only have a few left now. Most were sold in order to acquire a vintage car. Now I don't have the car or the '03s. I think I mourn the '03s more. An all-original, unmolested Rock Island Arsenal Model 1903 from 1913. The Smith Corona '03A3. My first rifle, owned since I was 18. It's a very early production rifle with a six-groove barrel dated 12-42. Scant grip stock isn't "correct" but that's the way it came to me in the fall of 1975 from Prince Jewelry and Loan in downtown Fort Worth. First two deer were collected with this rifle and it graced the firing line at the high-power matches. A Springfield Model 1922AII with a barrel dated 4-32.
