I have recently developed an urge to get a complete FM Detective upper (barrel, slide, recoil bits, etc). Anyone have one available?

That is going to be a real challenge... They show up once in a while on Gun Broker but not often and not cheap. Seems like once they were no longer available people suddenly started appreciating them... I certainly like mine... the balance (at least in my hand is perfect) and I find it easy to shoot. With a 15rd. Mec-Gar magazine, it is competitive with the modern plastic guns. This is the 'Detective" kit I bought on gun broker some years ago... I can promise you it wasn't cheap... This kit is mounted on a FEG frame that had been fitted with a Cylinder and Slide hammer and thumb safety. The FEG had been a 'clunker' since I got it about 20 years ago... it had a trigger pivot pin that 'walked' and a front sight that fell off... In it's new incarnation it is an excellent gun with nice trigger and great to carry... If you can find one you will be a happy camper indeed... I recall sitting in a barber shop reading a review of the Detective pistol and thinking the it would be nice, but not really needed. About 30 years later, I have far outpaced my "needs" and am far into "wants".....not to mention that I don't think I've been in a barber shop in all that time. Going bald, got a clipper, haven't looked back. And then there's all that money I've saved!

Think of all the guns you can buy with the money saved on haircuts... Yeah, but my wife doesn't buy that argument. She prefers to think of the savings as help for the mortgage, kids' college, car payments, etc. Foolish woman.

Trying to find the Detective KIT will be TOUGH for sure. "But when the going gets tough - the tough get going" Right ? I'LL BET, IF TISAS GETS ENOUGH REQUESTS - they might make, & sell a complete detective pistol, & DETECTIVE KIT, Great Idea IMO. I think I'll email LKCI this week - how about some others doing so as well ? Might even be as reasonable as other Tisas products.

I bought a Detective Kit, unused in the original bubblepack, not long after my first Hi Power in 2002. It cost $90 shipped. It has been a great toy for years. I recently mated it to an '81 FN alloy frame for use as a carry gun. I sent it out for troubleshooting because it wasn't quite working with the alloy frame. After a new guide rod, a fitted extended slide stop and a shortened trigger lever (pre travel is now longer while the trigger pushes the lever up farther), it now works perfectly with this frame.
-The original slide is currently cleaned and mothballed
-Other slides do not function properly with this frame
-The .22 kit will not work with this frame. ... gotta reinstall the original trigger lever for those to work properly.
I'm hoping the new BHSS trigger assembly will solve those problems. Anyway, I got what I've always wanted. It's a great carry gun at about 8oz lighter than a BHP, that still shoots like a BHP. I might look into having her refinished one day. If someone ever makes a Detective Kit again, I'll be sure to buy another.
Hope you find yours, jonnyc!

Jonnyc, I know exactly what you mean by needs have been far outpaced by wants. Now that were older, going to the show and coming home with a few new pistols is the norm. Back when we were young, life prevented us from having all the cool stuff we wanted. But... after all these years we never forgot the cool things we always wanted as kids. I call this the "Ralphie Syndrome", named after Ralphie from the movie, A Christmas Story. When you truly want something, yet it just isn't within your reach, you never forget about it! Guns come and go, so this makes them especially susceptible. I am 47 years old and I find myself on Ebay looking at Stomper 4x4s and GT Pro World Tour freestyle bmx bikes!

Good luck, it took me just at a year of hunting pretty hard. Eventually found one out of state on armslist.
