Yesterday while perusing the tables at a small local gun show, I happened across a like-new Charles Daly HP. It was priced at $475, and I almost brought it home with me. Since I already have one, however, I decided to pass. The seller had no box or paperwork, but otherwise the pistol was pristine. I just thought I'd post this here to let everyone know there are still good ones out there, and with a little bit of searching you can fine them. Also, the prices on the CDHP's don't seem to have gone through the roof in the aftermath of Browning/FN discontinuing the High Power.

P.S. When I asked to look at the pistol, the seller commenced our conversation by telling me it was made in the Philippines. It was actually one of the low serial numbered guns that was finished by Dan Wesson. I pointed that out to him and also mentioned the "Made in USA" marking on the frame. I tried to explain how it all worked, but his eyes kind of glazed over and I'm not sure he believed me.

That 'glazed over' look from a seller is the embarrassed/insulted look a dealer gets when a customer knows more about his gun than he does.

Guys like that are a little scary... you can only imagine the mis-information they are handing out to the unsuspecting...

Here in Appalachia, most natives I meet are easy going & conservative, usually very friendly. But; I have learned not to chime in with corrected information with any seller I'm trying to cut a deal with - after having spoiled a couple of transactions. Even though trying to enlighten - spotlighting ignorance is viewed like insulting ones women folk. One local guy still jacks up his prices when he sees "Mr. Smarty Pants" coming. Even if it seems morally ambiguous - it's best to let someone you want something from, think they are "right & smart".

I even had a store manager, who I was a long time friend with, pull me aside and thank me for holding my tongue in front of customers. Said he would discuss the issues with the employee in a less public setting.

This was one of those situations where I heard myself talking before I ever stopped to consider what I was saying or how it would be taken. I suppose it had something to do with putting forth a fair bit of effort researching the CDHP (and by extension, the FEG pistols). When I heard him say "Philippines" it triggered a reflexive response. Howard

Well, the seller has an inaccurate info in his mind as there is no CDHP made in the Philippines. The Charles Daly pistols made in the Philippines are the 1911's (by Rock Island Armory then). He has no idea that materials for CDHP were all FEG made.
