Hello Howard,
Well, I can certainly say that you have really given yeoman's effort at resolving the issue with the Max-1 and have done a most excellent job of documenting its performance! I hope that you come to a fruitful resolution in settling on the replacement of the Max-1. Great video as always! We are all pulling for you Howard!

You should send a copy of this video to the Llama gunsmith just so he can see first hand your persistant problems. A nice video, and I hope that you get made whole on your Llama purchase.

I actually did send him a link to the videos so he could see exactly what was happening. I don't know if he ever watched any of them. Howard

Howard, sorry that after the time and cost it isn’t running well for you. I’ve been less patient with ‘ammo finicky guns’ as I get older. 38 Super is a great cartridge for hollow points, hope the replacement works well for you.

One of the best things to come out of this ordeal is the opportunity it afforded for me to get acquainted with the 38 Super cartridge. I told someone else I’m having a “Where has this been all my life!” reaction to the cartridge. I only had a brief chance to work with some hand loads (between waiting for magazines, trips to the gunsmith, etc), but with a plated 124 grain bullet I was coming astonishingly close to 357 Magnum ballistics (as in 1380 fps). I am looking forward to working more with the 38 Super as soon as I have a pistol that won’t choke on it! Howard

Hello Howard,
I wish we lived closer so I could personally work on this gun - yes, I like a good challenge.
I may have missed it in your Super .38 threads, but if you haven't already bought some Factory COLT, Super .38 Magazines, it'd be a good idea to do so. COLT Part No. SP50225B, 9-Rd., Super .38, Blued Magazine. It'd also be a good idea to replace the Recoil Spring and Mainspring with Factory COLT Springs.
Anyhow, I hope the replacement works well, as in 100% total reliability.
Good luck in this endeavor,

Thanks Bob! I did swap out the recoil spring before I sent the pistol in for repair, but I don’t think I mentioned that in any of the videos. The new spring didn’t help. I also tried the Chip McCormic mags. Do you think the Colt’s would have performed better than the CMC’s? I’m certain with enough tinkering the Max-1 could have been cured, but I just decided I wasn’t going to invest any more time or money into a new pistol that is covered by two warranties (manufacturer and distributor). I was also concerned that if I so much as swapped a hammer spring, both warranties might have been voided. As someone said above, I would have been more committed to finding and correcting the problem(s) if this had been a used pistol with no warranty. Under the circumstances, however, I opted to have it replaced.
Thanks again, Howard

Hello Howard,
Yes, I believe the Factory COLT Magazines are second to none (regardless of the caliber).
