I haven't been around much lately, limiting myself to only 2 discussion boards, due to the fact that we have been having problems with my wife's health post-transplant for a new kidney.
I have been watching the reviews of the Tisas, and last week made the plunge. It should be at my local toy store tomorrow or Wednesday. Here is what I intend to do, even before taking it to range
1. Install BHSS Regent upgrade kit. (I did find that I have all the parts in that kit already, but I will have spares.)
2. Remove mag safety.
3. Install SFS. I purchased an extra when BHSS had them on sale, intending to put it in my FEG, but never got around to it.
4. Install a set of Uncle Mike's Craig Spegel pattern black grips.
5. Shoot the snot out of it.

I still need to replace the extractor, since I discovered that I didn't have a spare. Everything else is done, except for the "shooting the snot out of it" part.

All done, but "life" is going to keep me from the range until Monday at the earliest. Here it is: And here are the parts I removed/replaced:

Not sure if anyone is visiting here these days, but...
I took the Tisas to the range today. Ran about 350 rounds through it, an assortment of various hp's and ball ammo. Whenever I "retire" carry ammo I toss it in a gallon bag which I emptied today. Only one problem, with a reload that was too long to fully chamber. Other than that, everything ran well with no hiccups. Both of the Mec-Gar mags that came with the pistol (a 13 & a 15) were flawless as expected, as were other 15 round Mec-Gars.
I ran some "scoot & shoot" drills as well as some one handed (strong & weak) scenarios. Trigger was excellent with perfect crisp reset. I was able to run doubles & triples easily. I don't know if I mentioned it earlier, but I had also replaced the factory trigger with the C&S wide trigger and the return spring with a BHSS 2 coil.
I really, really like this pistol. Cleaning was a breeze, most fouling wiped right off with a little FP10. I used a small amount of Flitz on the feed ramp to bring it back to a high gloss shine.
I don't know what my experience would have been with the factory parts, but in its present configuration it is great. Too heavy to carry every day, but I would have no issue trusting it for defensive use. When is that next BBQ?

The range report is great news.
You are wrong about a BHP being too heavy for EDC ----- unless you are "a girlie man" and Hans and Franz need to "pump you up".

Very nice sistema. I'm itching to order a stainless like you have. Maybe my Xmas present. I assume you heard about the re engineered extractor.

I replaced the extractor with a Browning/FN one. Even if LKCI would ship out a replacement I wouldn't use it. I know that some folks are waiting for them to send them a replacement extractor and firing pin stop, but I already know that the FN parts are good to go without becoming an Alpha or Beta tester.

I'm with you. I have a blued model. I took the advice of BHSS and proactively replaced the firing pin stop and put in the heavy firing pin spring to compensate for the lack of a drop safety. I left the original extractor in to see how long it would last. It broke in the third range session at round 699. Replaced with a Browning extractor. When I get my stainless model I will replace all of these out of the box, along with the pins and springs that come in the BHSS BR9 upgrade kit.

Even as a free replacement I had no interest in a "reengineered" extractor. They didn't get it right the first time, why should I think the replacement is better? Since I was going to the trouble of replacing a broken extractor anyway I just put in a Browning.

Not sure if anyone is visiting here these days, but...Hi Jerry, I look in here fairly often. But don't have much to add. My BR9SS is still stock except for Uncle mikes grips. I love it , & haven't put enough rounds through it to break anything, *But I do have plenty of spare parts*. I wrote LKCI for the improved FP Retaining Plate & an Extractor. Rather have the improved drop in, FREE factory replacements than having to fit other parts. I am so glad I bought one of these. No telling if I'll ever afford, or find my Grail FN, but satisfied with my Tisas & Fegs till then. Best wishes All.

Craig, Glad that you have lots of spare parts. YES, An extremely generous friend here, who replaced practically everything inside with better parts - blessed me with his take offs. So I am covered for quite awhile. I had my Stainless Jewel at the range last week for a good workout, & may be near the count where others broke something. I did not get mine as hot as others did. This suggested to me, that perhaps letting things wear in gradually, without excessive heat during use may be better for it. I was reminded of the story about why British Motorcycle makers began sending bikes to the USA with looser engine tolerances & chrome rings. Seems us colonials were to impatient to break them in properly, & gassed them from the get-go, resulting in early engine failures (broken iron cylinder rings etc.) until changes were made. I usually take a few pistols to the range & alternate, I took my Feg Mauser this time also, which I had rebuilt with mostly new parts & REMSPORT STAINLESS BARREL. it performed like a new pistol, other than its military sights, it was identical to shooting my REGENT. Very happy with the mechanical pals, & new Friend.
Craig
