I'm delighted to report Steven Camp's website which was down for a bit is back and his books are once again available... www.hipowersandhandguns.com/HiPowerComments.html There is a wealth of information on High Powers and other pistols as well... I highly recommend buying the revised edition of his High Power book as well... I bought both and I'm glad I did. V/r Chuck

Great reference volume for all things Browning Hi Power. I have his revised edition ( 2011) and it looks like a well used text book. I should buy a nice new copy

Hello smith10, Back when I moderated on the H&A forum with Steve Camp, I learned a lot about firearms and ammunition. However, better yet; Steve taught me a lot more. Steve Camp was the consummate "internet diplomat". Thanks for posting this, Still miss Mr Camp. Nice to go back and read his stuff. Behind the "curtain", i.e. in the Moderator's Section; Steve had quite a sense of humor, demonstrated humility and strength in honor. He was one of the most influential people that I have ever met on the internet. I miss him very much and he was the man "to ride the river with".... Best, Chris

Best, Chris Steve was also quick to help other authors and to publicly endorse their work. I wrote "Decoding The FEG Hi Power" in 2009 and, since the material in the book was very complicated, asked him to review the final draft for clarity and technical accuracy. He quickly agreed and, after the book was published, gave it a very gracious recommendation in his own writings: "Hi Powers and Handguns." The man knew what graciousness and humility were all about and practiced them every day. I was also a Moderator under Steve's direction and I certainly agree with Chris that he "wrote the book" on gentlemanly conduct on internet gun forums, not only by members, but especially by Moderators and Administrators. His loss was greatly felt by many, and I am among them in spades. JayPee

Steven and I were both members of the same shooting club during my Texas years... We all called him Stephen... I'm not sure why, but that was all I ever heard used... though I suspect that was only at the club, Steve would be much more likely in gengeral use... but I always thought it odd that he was 'Stephen' at the club. As others noted he was a real Southern Gentleman... he was also a local peace officer and was very well respected and liked... he was the epitome of an old time peace officer (as opposed to a law enforcement officer) who mixed common sense, extreme integrity, kindness and empathy in carrying out his duties. He was the sort of officer who would talk serious E.D.s into giving up without fighting or shooting. His wit and people skills are much missed. I just found this site through The High Road and was very pleased to see the thread on Stephen Camp. I still read and reread my inscribed copies of "Defensive Handguns" (2003), "The Shooter's Guide to the Browning Hi Power" (2007), and "Stephen A. Camps's Hi Power Disassembly Guide."
It was his Hi Power discussions that influenced me to find a beautiful 1953 Belgian FN Hi Power, now one of my favorite handguns. Even more importantly, I still remember Stephen as one of the finest gentlemen I have ever come across. He is sorely missed by all who had the chance to get to know him.

Thanks for the picture; I'm one of many who knew him via the forums and emails, but never met him in person.
