When it's necessary to tear into the back end of the Hi Power, one needs a tool to hold the hammer all the way back. Here are the ones I use on both the rowel hammer and spur hammer. First, here's the one I use on the rowel hammer   And here's the one I use on the spur hammer   Now maybe we can get Slav to show the one he markets.  JayPee |

JayPee, I detail stripped my HP for the first time since I bought it new in 1988. I've honestly not shot it much, so it wasn't dirty. It's been a bedside weapon. Figured I might need some guidance in putting it back together because I've heard of a "special tool" one needs. This must be the "special" one. What did you make that out of, welding rod?

Wow, it sure is! Is that what you have to do when installing the sear? Yes sir, it is. The hammer must be held back against the stop for assembly and disassembly. I'm hoping some of the other guys will show us their versions too. The one Slav sells is the cat's meow too. JP |

I'm sure it would be. I just hope I didn't harm the sear or hammer surfaces when I did it. I paid a pretty penny back in '88 for a fantastic trigger job. Gonna go out to the shop to look at the sear in a little while.

Believe it or not, the first time I ever detail stripped a Hi Power, I held the hammer back by inserting the handle of a punch underneath the hammer strut. You have to find a punch with a handle of the proper diameter, but it will work pretty well.

That is a nice one JayPee... so nice you should bottle it for commercial consumption... For a long time I used a $1.95 clamp with rubberized jaws I bought at Harbor Freight... it worked but was sure not an elegant solution... Not long ago the BHSS tool came on the market and I bought a couple (one for my work bench and one for my range took kit... though I can't imagine detail stripping a gun at the range) and they are really great... much better than the clamps I used earlier...
