This time of year I favor an "Askins Avenger" style, straight drop for OWB carry. I find this the fastest holster type for presenting the pistol for me. A Sparks VM2 style IWB is easiest for me to conceal under a Tee shirt or Polo, but is slower on presentation. I use Wes Dahl's (Privateer Leather) leather for both of these methods of carry- with either P-35's or 1911's. With cooler weather I frequently carry an Alessi "Bodyguard" shoulder rig. It's easier to fish the gun out from under a jacket than trying to pull multiple layers of clothing up- and out of the way of a hip holster.

I had Troy at Brigade make one like the Avenger but as a paddle holster. It has an adjusting screw and suede lining. I had it fitted to my CCO, but it also works for my HPs since it has an open bottom, the muzzle just sticks out slightly.

That is nice looking leather gear... Thanks for sharing the photos with us... I'm partial to the gear made by Ryan Grizzle... makes some top quality leather gear. Here is a holster and horizontal mag carrier he made for a HP. Close up of stitching... very well done... it has proved to be very rugged. This one is made for a Smith & Wesson Shield... I like the S&W Shield for carry... I has Grizzle make a horizontal mag carrier for the Shield too. This holster was made by a total unknown holster maker who would sell at Dallas Market Hall Gun Shows... These are very high quality and seem to be made of cast iron... they last and last... This is another set I had Grizzle make for my Colt's 1903/1908 pocket autos which I still carry from time to time... Here is a back view showing the shirt protector and the quality of work. I really like these holsters, they are very durable and work well too... V/r Chuck

Good lookin' leather, huntershooter. I came real close to buying that holster from Wes, but decided on the Highwayman. I carry concealed and felt his pancake would pull in tighter than the Avenger style. Gotta wait until mid July though. (dangit!)

Chuck, your Grizzle leather are ringers for the Askins Avenger style rig. I know they must be comfortable.
Good stuff.

Hunter,
I have noticed they are very similar... It is possible the guys who make holsters buy the dies they cut the leather with from the same source... I think this because I have seen others that look the same too... I doubt they are cut freehand...
I'm really happy with Grizzle's product and service... if I have a complaint it is he has a pretty large backlog and takes about 3-4 months to get something... OTOH lots of craftsmen are back logged and he does tell you how long the wait should be when you order one... and he delivers pretty much on that schedule... The price we pay for custom leather I suppose.
Vant,
I bought that HP from a good friend a year or so ago... it has turned out to be one of my favorites and it gets shot quite a lot...
Thanks for the kind words.
V/r
Chuck

The HP is my all time favorite carry gun. My current favorite holsters are an old AKJ Concealco IWB and Privateer Leather. Wes does great work.

He does, indeed. I'm about 9 days from when he said he'd have my holster finished and I'm like a kid at Christmas waitin' for Santa to come down that durned chimney! Never could figure out how he managed it because we had a faux fireplace.

The Trojan by International Handgun Leather. The same used for the Beretta 92.
