Bronze medal in the modern military Rifle match! I finally have something to show for being here. Howard Excellent job, Howard! It was brutal out today being sunny and low mid 90's. Wow. Have your rain gear together tomorrow for your gold medals in the Garand and M1A matches. You'll do fine my friend.

Thanks everyone! You're right Wags, it was hot and humid out there today. I must have drunk a gallon of water since I came off the range, and I'm still thirsty!
I was shooting my S&W M&P 15 (in M4 configuration). The modern military match prohibits any sort of match enhancements, so I was battling a stagy, gritty, 7.5 pound trigger. That made my standing offhand stage very difficult. Two bad shots on that stage (due largely to that trigger) kept me from a silver medal finish.
Now, on to tomorrow. M1 Garand Match in the morning (we have to be on the firing line at 0530), and the M1A match in the afternoon. Something tells me I'll sleep well tomorrow night.

[ Always have my rain gear Wags! I've been playing this game long enough to know that if it's not ungodly hot on the range, then it's probably raining cats and friggin' dogs! Interestingly, I've shot some pretty good scores in the rain, so maybe I should do a rains dance in the morning! Howard

Congrats on winning a medal. I have never been to Camp Perry, but have read a lot about it, and the level of shooters that compete there. Good luck in the next shoot-offs.

I hope we do not have to wait for him to report in. Tough being a spectator without being there and with no TV or radio coverage.

Well, the 2017 National Matches are over for me. I missed a second Bronze medal today with my M1 by one point.it was a demanding day, out of bed at 0415 and on the range by about 0500, only to be put on a delay status due to a thunderstorm. So we milled around until 0900 by which time the thunder and lightening were gone, but the rain lingered. We then proceeded to slog our way downrange for the M1 match. Overall I was pretty happy with the way I shot, but I have some work to do before next year. Thanks for all the support folks!!!

I saw a commercial the other day which said champions are made from prior defeat.

Thanks for keeping us updated Howard on your matches. Saturday morning @ 0530 early was enough for me to say glad I'm not competing in this horrible weather. And the rest of the day was not the best for shooting by any means. But thank you for your dedication.
Once I get around to it today, I'll post up the public link to all the matches and results for the CMP Camp Perry 2017 National Matches for last week from there official website.

Wags:
That would be great. I hope it will have the military branches of service listed.

Hi all! Japee contacted me and made me aware of a terrible misunderstanding. It appears some of you got the impression that I finished in third place overall in the Modern Military Rifle Match last week. That is not the case! When I said I received a bronze medal, that was absolutely true! However, the CMP medals are awarded based on achieving certain scores. In the case of a bronze medal, shooters must achieve a score of at least 270 points out of a possible 300. My score in the match was in the Bronze medal range, thus I received one. Shooters attaining a score between 277 and 284 received a silver medal and those shooting a score of 285 or higher all received a gold medal. I apologize for any confusion, it was never my intent to mislead anyone. I guess I thought the CMP Medal/achievement score process was more well known.
Sincerely, Howard
