APW
For those who asked: Accurate Plating and Weaponry (APW) (334) 585- 9488 Owner is Bob Cogan. I've used him for well over 30 years now. He can do most any finish there is many of which he invented himself. APW is also a first class, full service custom shop. So, if you want a bunch of mods done to a weapon, get a quote from him on the entire job. When you factor in having to $hip a weapon to several different vendors, you just might save $$$ by having APW do the entire job.

A few years ago a neighbor gave me a HP and holster he had carried in the British Royal Air Force in Korea. He said they had some infiltrators at their base on one occasion. The NOKOs managed to penetrate their perimeter at one point and the pilots engaged the few that managed to penetrate with their side arms... some of whom he said still carried Enfield .380 revolvers!! HE added he was very happy he had a High Power. The story of that skirmish was very interesting to hear... sadly the old gentleman has since died... another font of history lost forever. Anyway, this HP has seen action... another gun I wish could talk... There is nothing really special about this Inglis built HP other than it's service history... I was lucky enough to get a RAF holster with the pistol... only cost to me being a little ammo burned up when I took the old gentleman to the range to shoot his HP. All in all seems to me to be a nice addition to the collection... and has special memories both for me (being a gift from a brave man) and it's service history. So, I thought I'd post this and share it... FWIW Chuck

This is my Novak's Spec Op's BHP that Kurt Wickman finished for me in the early 90's. A favorite and my first Hi-Power.

Another Wickmann built Special Ops, done while he was at Novak's in the early nineties. The finish is Robar's NP3.

Last week Mr Coffee posted on some lightweight HPs for sale at Ohio Ordnance Works. I was able to grab one, but the down side was they were finished in a cerakote cammo pattern. It did come with some Hogue piranha grips, and was overall in very good condition. The cerakote, although not to my liking was well applied, not as bad as anticipated and is in very good condition, but it still has to go. The plan is to soon re cerakote in a more traditional color or colors. As I had always planned to re finish any LW I eventually found, purchasing with the cammo pattern finish is not a big deal. OOW was real easy to work with, shipped quickly and sent tracking information. I would not hesitate to do business with them again. The HP dates from 1980 with a 245PM serial number on the front grip strap (in yellow no less). The barrel, slide and frame have the stacked numbers, GV C 17480. The base plate of the magazine has GVC 544 84, assuming that it was at some point switched out with another LW. The import marks are nicely out of the way on the lip of the mag well.

^^Looks like a tidy little pick-up, Todd, and I am not minding the Cerakote cammo all that much. At least it's better than the digital cammo pattern, which was known to induce vertigo and car sickness.

Here's my 69C. When this pistol came to me it had a nicely done set of Micro adjustable sights put on it by the original owner. One thing about Micro sights is that they have sharper edges than a Bic razor. I've since had it redone with SFS and Novak night sights. The trigger at first might fool you into thinking that it's a C&S wide trigger, but it's actually the current production FN trigger introduced circa 2007. When Old George, my tame gunsmith, first saw it, I could see him working up to a grumble. OG isn't fond of installing C&S triggers. When I explained that this was actually an OEM Hi Power trigger, I think I might have detected a slight smile and an almost imperceptible nod of approval. Or, it might have just been gas. The grips are fully checkered Hogues. For (at the time) $10 extra, Hogue will make a set of fully checkered grips on special order. Although this Hi Power has a humped feed ramp, it shoots hollow points all day long with no issues. Click on the photos and they get more bigger: Attachments:

My Israeli MK II-1/2, refinished in Black and FDE GunKote. The only updates to the pistol are the C&S trigger, my favorite, Spegel Delrin stocks, and a complete BHSS spring kit. Oh, and the deck tape on the front and rear of the grip frame, compliments of the USN. It's the stuff they use for traction on any of the ladders on a ship.

Toddsig,
That HP looks to be a great base for your build. The camo doesn't look as bad as some that I have seen, but it is still camo on a HP!!! Have fun building this piece.

GT40Doc, agreed, an HP is no place for a camo finish. I think first it will go to Novak's for new sights, and while waiting for the slide to return figure out the new color or colors. I saw either a Hi Power or 1911 that was done in a dark, almost black blue cerakote finish on the slide and a silver or titanium for the frame. I have to look and see if I can find that combination.

Toddsig, I agree with GT40Doc, camo ain't my thing at all. I usually get a rather adverse reaction to camo pistols - especially Hi Powers. Having said that, yours is the least unattractive camo Hi Power I've seen yet. How's that for a compliment? I mean, every other camo HP I've seen I'd have to bury in the back yard until it got refinished. But not that one. I'm not admitting that it's really nice, but it doesn't hurt the eyes either. All joshing aside, I like your plans for it and I look forward to seeing the transformation. Lightweight Hi Powers are rather scarce. You did well!
