Given the discussion in another thread this sale might be of interest... SGAmmo has a good price on Federal 9BPLE at $289 per K. www.sgammo.com/Sure is nice to see prices falling rather than going up... V/r Chuck

I have used SG Ammo for several years. They ship fast and their prices are very much better than what I can find locally - if I can find any at all. Buy with confidence!

Bye-the-bye, in addition to the +P+ 9BPLE, Federal also makes 9BP which is the same bullet but not in +P+ loading. The difference in velocity seems to be around 80 or so FPS on my chrono... not a great deal of difference. The 9BP has a long track record of success in real life use.
Most people tend to avoid +P+ in their HPs, so the 9BP is worth considering... and as a plus it is often on sale at good prices.
SGAmmo also has plain 9BP standard pressure and 9ME 147gr JHP slightly cheaper than the 9BPLE.
I have used the 9BPLE in Mk.III HPs and it works well and has caused no problems...

The difference in velocity seems to be around 80 or so FPS on my chrono... not a great deal of difference. The 9BP has a long track record of success in real life use. The discussion of standard pressure versus the +P variation came up on one of the police-oriented forums, I think sometime last year. One of the members who was a firearms instructor from some police department was bemoaning his department making their last purchase of standard pressure HST because their supplier was out of the +P variation in those quantities at the time. Concerns about having a lesser level of effectiveness as far as terminal ballistics were concerned. Dr Gary Roberts (or perhaps it was Dr. Fackler) was a member of that group and pointed out that experience on the street said (if you felt compelled to argue one was better than the other) that the standard pressure HST had a better record than the +P. Although he ended by saying that in real life, neither was better than the other. That leaves me to believe all you get more of with the +P version is slightly more muzzle blast, recoil, and recovery time between shots. And somewhat more wear and tear on the handgun of course, although I don't know how you could begin to measure that unless you had very deep pockets and a desire to know. I don't think you can go wrong with either one
