The BDM, 1996, not sure why I bought it, but it was inexpensive and convenient, so why not.

I remember when the BDM came out. Not a very warm reception. I've never held or fired one, but that option of SA/DA by turning the screw on the frame always fascinated me. So might as well ask, is it accurate, reliable and comfortable to shoot? And it won't accept standard Hi-Power magazines either I thought. Was the BDM magazine capacity 13 or 15? Thanks for sharing.

Wags, you are correct, it does not accept Hi Power mags. I have two 10 round mags, and there are 15 round mags available, but from what I found there are scarce and can be expensive. It shoots OK, but I still prefer the SAO Hi Power. The BDM is a little thinner, so it does feel differently than a Hi Power. Trigger was OK from what I recall, but I have not shot it in a while. Wags, I would be more than willing to trade my BDM for one of your Novak/Wickmans.

From what I can tell one of the reasons the BDM failed in the market place was the Hillary High Capacity Magazine Ban...
The 15 rd. Magazines (I think it was 15... but maybe 13) were only available for a very short time... unlike the HP which had a large number of standard capacity magazines already in the hands of dealers and users the BDM did not... and as a result most people who bought a BDM were limited to 10 round magazines...
As a result lots of people bought pistols for which pre ban standard capacity magazines were available (albeit at high prices) for purchase.
Had we not had the Hillary ban, the BDM might have been more successful...
FWIW

The barrel, guide rod, spring and fit have the feel of a newer plastic gun like a Glock.

Do not ever under any circumstance buy a Triple K magazine for a BDM. They are junk and will not even fit into the gun. Its better to pay the high price and get a factory mag.
