Beyond any doubt the S&W micrometer sights are the ones to use. If you have never fired an auto loader with the S&W sights you have missed one of the great things in life. I have an Colt's Government model I had fitted with the S&W sights in the late 1960s that is magnificent... It is the last shooter I'd ever let go... FWIW Chuck Thanks Bob, although I still have time to decided, I too am leaning toward sending the '80 Sport. What do you think on sights. I am thinking of either Heinie, Bomar or perhaps old school S&W revolver? I am partial to all three.

ToddSig... "The problem is I dont have a beater HP to serve as the donor in my collection" - what??? Are you series?? What series collector doesn't have at least 1 (or 5) Beater BHPs... LOL 😊😁😁 Got to have a couple beaters, buddy! One never knows when the 'spirit' comes upon on you and you're 'compelled' to upgrade or re-finish or both! 👍👍😊

A bit old school, but I think they look great. I have them on an 69C Austin Behlert combat and another early FN High Power. Like Bob mentioned, I will probably go with a gold dot front sight or gold line. In looking at Harrison sights, per Bob mentioning Yost Harrison sights, they have the Yost style gold line front sight available. I will talk to Don W after the Hi Power arrives and see what he recommends as well.

Most of my beaters have already been worked on, several to Bob Coogan at APW, a couple went to Ford's for bluing, another was to a local smith. Recent purchases have all been in good condition. I only have the two alloy frames that are in less than ideal condition, but I plan on keeping one in its current condition, the other for a project. As I am looking for a range gun for this project, the alloy does not fit the intended use. That leaves me with the Sport model, which I have two of. Although now that I know series collectors need at least 1-5 beaters in their collection, I will try to rectify the situation and bring the collection into balance by adding a few beaters.

Lately I've noticed that the gold dot front sight is quite popular on several platforms. Forgive my ignorance but what's so special about the gold dot front sight? To me it seems that a red or green fiber-optic front sight offers better visibility (at least so for older eyes...). Educate me, please.

I never enjoyed the look of it, but can't argue with Chuck about function. For looks, I guess I always favored the Bo-Mar type of rear adjustable sights.

Hello, Sam,
The gold bead (and/or line) grabs the light rather well and it just makes the sight look nicely 'finished' - with that said, and with all due respect to you sir, putting fiber-optic sights on a High Power would deface the gun (in my view) and could possibly even be a Sin!

Hi Bob - I asked for an 'education' on this and I sure got it - Thank you!👍😊
In looking at pictures of BHPs and 1911's with the gold bead, I have to agree with you that it does provide for a cleaner look and close enough to 'stock' front sight look, yet with better visibility. I also FULLY agree that putting a fiber optic on a BHP is a (cardinal) sin!!!😁

Quick update. I reached out to Don Williams as I was getting ready to box up the Hi Power sport. Don had some flooding in his shop, so I said I would wait until the end of September to send the pistol for custom work. I am glad for the delay, as I was having second thoughts on sending the nice 1980 Sport. In the meantime, I spotted a FN Surplus on Gunbroker, a 1988 MKII, rib to the top of the slide, drain hole but with the older style right side only safety. I wanted a Browning roll marked Hi Power for the build and not an FN. I have a spare 1988 early Browning Sport MKIII slide (8 production marked on the firing pin block), firing pin safety, plus the shallow muzzle bushing. The swap fits and seems to function fine. The Browning of the period did not have a serial number on the slide, barrel and frame only, plus I might have Don fit a custom barrel, so all seems to work. Will probably sell on EBay the FN MKII slide to offset costs. Overall pretty happy, got to use a surplus and a spare slide, and keep my 1980 beer can. Sort of having my cake and eating it too. Image of the MKII before the slide swap and as received from GB seller. The 1988 MKIII slide. The sights will of course be replace. Here is what will be sent to Don Williams at Action Work, finish will probably be DLC

Not just a sin, but it might get you haunted by the spirit of John Browning... Maybe that would not be too bad... sit around with the ghost of JMB and listen to him talk about "way back then." I am thinking of going with the Harrison Yost style gold line front sight. I will talk with Don W about it. Given it is a full custom build, I think JMB will forgive me for the gold line front sight. Link to the Harrison sight. shop.harrisoncustom.com/yost-001Bob, thanks for mentioning these sights.

Yes, your comments really got me thinking, perhaps we can call it a mini Hi Power "intervention".
