Thank you for taking the time to help me understand my Dad's old gun. I was contemplating selling it for a minute, but now doubt it's worth enough to tempt me to part with it. I just bought the new version of this pistol and FN has created a new masterpiece. The one I got is the 509 with a threaded muzzle and silencer sights. FN managed to get a 22 rnd 9mm mag in this thing also. Thankfully, Apple

The FN509 is a really nice gun... I have had one over a year now and like it a lot...
Good news is FN has re-introduced the High Power. The gun might be called a MK IV or maybe a HP 2022! I have not seen any in stores yet, but I definitely want one.
I'm glad to hear you are hanging on the the family heirloom.

The FN High Power is the first and only pistol ever to use the name High Power.
No parts are interchangeable with the Browning Patent Depose High Power we know and love. For my money... the new FN High Power may be a fabulous pistol, but it is not at all a High Power, no matter what it is called. Definitely not a Mark IV BHP or a BHP 2022. Just a nice and rather large and heavy pistol using the High Power name for marketing while other companies produce pretty nice legacy High Powers.
Cheers,
Tim

I have not seen a new HP in person yet... but I'm told there is some parts interchangeability with the old HPs. Magazines are reported to be the same as well. I am anxious to get one and see how it is built. As an aside I have FINALLY gotten a Springfield HP. I have not yet had time to work it on the range yet, but from taking it down it seems to be really well made and nice Parker finish as well. The controls are still a bit stiff but that is typical of a new phosphate finish. The trigger is slightly heavier than I like, but smooth with a clean break. I think it would be easily improved a bit, but it may be that shooting it some will improve the pull some. Happily they did not include the evil magazine interlock... I think I will like it. It's nice to see someone else watched Cole's GB adds too. I bought a few guns from Gary over the years and still would watch his adds if they were there anymore.

Yes I knew Gary had died. His son tried to run the business but then there was a fire and now it's all history.
