Recently I was looking at some Hi Power auctions and spotted a nice looking FN 1961 Argentine contract pistol. The auction only had a few hours left (impulse buy), highest bid was about $755. Always wanted a crested Hi Power, so made a bid at $760 about 15 minutes before the end of the auction. I have seen some of these in similar condition selling for over $900 so I figured I would be outbid in the next few minutes. No other bids made, not a steal at $760 but a pretty decent deal when I see basic surplus FN High Powers with poor finishes selling for over $700. All numbers matched, including the mag, it had what looked like late 1980s (pre MKIII) grips, and was re-blued. I heard many were either blued, epoxied or parked when imported sometime in the 1990s. It also came with a new in package MecGar 13 round mag as well as a vintage 1980 Hi Power manual. Very pleased upon arrival, I switched the grips out with a more age appropriate set of red backs. The Hi Power is serial number 06787 marked Policia Prov. BS Aires-61, and Div Interna Sec. Internal extractor and no thumb print depression. Most parts are production marked from 1962, and with the six thousand serial number, probably toward the end of the contract. There is some slight loss to the marks when it was refinished and some areas of pitting, but overall pretty good. I have seen some in much rougher condition. I also liked that it was blued rather than parked or epoxy. A few images

That is a really nice catch !!! I believe that example was issued to the secret police in BA! I'm sure you will enjoy it. Can't overlook one observation - the rear sites are slightly off to the right and some adjustments are required if you use sites at all on it. Personally, I think that the original models are meant to be operated without the use of sites on this pistol. May as well take them off.

Yes the rear sight is slightly off center, I had spotted that in the auction images as well. Will reset the sight this weekend. Barrel is pretty, has some use, but no pitting or frosting and the crown is good. Not sure when I will get to the range to try, but look forward to seeing how it runs.

Gratuitous post, my 1967 Tangent T Looks super glossy. Is it a refinish? You're an amazing buyer/collector, Todd.

Mr. C, yes it was rather rough with some pitting when I bought off of a local gunboard. Ford's did the metal work and the Fords level polishing and bluing, which is one level below the master blue. Takes them some time, but they do amazing work.
